Register by June 14 (it's free!) for yearly UC tech conference

Registration has opened for UCCSC 2010, the annual conference where University of California computing professionals discuss common IT issues and learn about projects at other campuses. Free registration and the hybrid live/virtual format mean people can attend at no cost.

The schedule includes more than two dozen presentations, ranging from cloud computing to designing custom applications for multi-campus use. Two presentations are from UC Davis--on Xeda, and on "Developing, Charging for, and Subsidizing a Central Virtualization Service."

The theme is "No Limits! UCCSC Goes Green and Saves Green!"

The University of California Computing Services Conference will meet July 19-20 at the University of California, Los Angeles; registration is due June 14. People who attend in person must arrange their own travel and lodging. Participants typically include technical support staff, system administrators, directors, managers, librarians, information security experts, and others.

"Because people can attend from anywhere," the conference website states, "we hope to be able to include people who have no travel budgets, people who are only interested in one or two presentations, and people who can't get away for a full conference."

This year's Sautter awards, which recognize IT innovations at UC campuses, will also be announced at the conference. Last year the UC Davis Health System won a golden Sautter award for its Computerized Provider Order Entry project, a key phase of the system's transition from paper to electronic medical records.

Different campuses host the conference each summer. Last year Davis presented the event as a sold-out, one-time combination of the UCCSC with the every-other-year UC Davis IT Security Symposium, under the theme "UCCSC2009-Focus on Security."
